GIS - 05 December, 2016: A three-day Agricultural Cooperative Fair showcased the manufactured products of various cooperatives from 2 December to 4 December 2016, at Maison des Eleveurs, Henrietta.
The objective of the Fair, organised by the Ministry of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, was to provide market access to co-operators and to enhance the visibility of the cooperative movement and expand their market avenues.

Present at the opening, the Minister of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, Mr Soomilduth Bholah, highlighted that this event is essentially geared towards tackling a major handicap of Cooperatives, which is the lack of visibility. Hence, the opportunity this platform provides for them to establish contact with customers and market their products.

The Minister underlined that with the kind of technical, professional and managerial support that the Government is currently providing to this sector, cooperative societies are a springboard for the development of businesses and hence called on the Cooperative members to embrace this opportunity to enhance their business.

Also present at the opening ceremony, the Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Etienne Sinatambou, pointed to the Government’s initiative to boost the different sectors of the economy by establishing cross-collaboration among different ministries. He underpinned the recent strategy of technology transfer in the cooperative sector to boost production and to enable cooperatives to develop and grow.

Products on show at the Agricultural Fair included vegetables, fruits, flowers, and medicinal plants. The event was given an additional dimension with the interpretation of folk songs and dances and Mehendi application.
