Attorney General takes stock of progress of renovation works at Savanne and Pamplemousses district courts

GIS 21 September 2018: The Attorney General, Minister of Justice, Human Rights and Institutional Reforms, Mr. Maneesh Gobin, accompanied by judicial officers and officers of the Police Prosecution Unit, the Traffic Management Road Safety Unit, the Health & Safety Unit of the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, Employment, conducted a site visit on 19 September and 20 September 2018, at the District Courts in Telfair Souillac and Pamplemousses respectively.
Minister Gobin underlined that the objective of the site visit was to take stock of the progress in the upgrading and renovation works being undertaken at the Pamplemousses and Savanne district courts. He pointed out that a sum of Rs 49 million has been earmarked in Budget 2018-2019 for the upgrading of the Pamplemousses, Souillac, Flacq and Rose-Hill district courts.
He also highlighted that Government has already made acquisition of the Souillac and Pamplemousses SIFB buildings for the relocation of both district courts. In this regard, he added that renovation works are going on smoothly and that arrangements will be made so as not to disrupt hearings at the two district courts.
The Minister expressed satisfaction as regards the progress of the works while adding that ensuring security around these two buildings remains a priority.
