GIS – August 7, 2013: The 28th Ministerial Meeting of the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI), under the chairmanship of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Satyaprakash Ritoo, will be held on 9 to 10 August 2013 at the Intercontinental Resort, Balaclava. It is being preceded by meetings at experts’ level which have started today.
The Meetings are taking cognizance of the outcome of the activities organised by the CJSOI during the period January to July 2013, and examining the programme of activities for the year 2014 and the organisation of the 10th Edition of the CJSOI Games by Mayotte.
The 9th Edition of the CJSOI Games is to be held in Djibouti in 2014.
About the CJSOI
The CJSOI is a regional intergovernmental commission founded in 1988 following a meeting of the CONFEJES (Conférence des Ministres de la Jeunesse et des Sports) one year earlier. It objectives are to promote friendship ties between young people from Member States and foster regional cooperation, sporting culture and development of youth.
The CJSOI Games were introduced in 1994 by the Ministerial Committee of the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Ocean Indien. Participating countries are: Comoros, Djibouti, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte, Reunion and the Seychelles.
The main objective of the Games, organised every two years, is to enable youth aged between 14 and 17 years participate in international sporting events as well as promote cultural exchanges amongst the member islands/countries of the Indian Ocean.
