GIS - 7 October 2015: The Competencies of Strategic Leaders, was the theme of a talk organised by the Ministry of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms in collaboration with the Civil Service College, this morning at the Lunch Room, National Assembly, New Government Centre, Port Louis.
The talk which aims to give participants a deeper understanding on how their strategic mindsets are shaped by their “past-present-future” paradigms, was delivered by KC Yan, senior consultant with the Institute of Training and Development (ITD) World, Malaysia. He has over 25 years experience in Global Human Resource Management and specialises in executive coaching, leadership development programmes, human resource function strategies and career development, amongst others.
Present at the talk, the Minister of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms, Mr Alain Wong, said that the Civil Service College will be operational in a few weeks. He recalled that the College has been set up to help in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Public sector and it aims at equipping government officers with the appropriate values, work place, skills and management tools to ensure that a lifelong learning culture is instilled in them.
According to the Minister, for the Civil Service College to be a success, there is a need for the collaboration of one and all. All training will be handled by the College, he underlined, adding that, except for domain training like police training, amongst others.
Speaking about the reforms Government wants to see in the Civil Service, Mr Wong announced that the flexi-time system is being implemented on a pilot basis at his Ministry.
It is recalled that as per Government Programme 2015-2019, in addition to catering for the training needs of the Public sector at large including state-owned enterprises, the Civil Service College will also serve as a regional centre of excellence in Public Sector Management and Governance.
