GIS -18 July, 2014: The Fisheries sector was the focus of a consultative meeting held yesterday in Port Louis under the chairmanship of the Minister of Fisheries, Mr Nicolas Von-Mally, in the context of the 2015 budget preparation.
Minister Von-Mally highlighted the need to re-boost the Mauritian seafood hub with emphasis on developing further marine aquaculture in line with government policy to encourage higher value added activities in that sector which is presently undergoing rapid changes. He also underlined the need for Mauritius to diversify its products and markets in the wake of globalisation and growing demand for aquatic products.
The meeting was held in the presence of the Financial Secretary, Mr Dev Manraj, and representatives of all the stakeholders of the fisheries sector.
This meeting is the fifth of a series of consultative meetings after that of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector, financial services sector, Manufacturing sector and the tourism sector for incorporation in the 2015 budget.
