GIS - 23 May, 2013: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Public Utilities, Dr A. R. Beebeejaun, FRCP, GCSK effected site visits yesterday at Arnaud in the region of Mare-aux-Vacoas and at Pailles Treatment Plant, to take stock of the projects currently being undertaken regarding water storage and water treatment.
At Arnaud a dam is being constructed to realign the course of Rivière du Poste so as to feed the Mare-aux-Vacoas reservoir by a spill system. Dr Beebeejaun pointed out that this will bring an additional 10 000 m3 of water per month which will be used to supply an additional 30 000 households daily.  The works are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
At Pailles Treatment Plant, works will soon be undertaken for the treatment of water so as to supply an additional of up to 30 000 m3 of water to the region of Port Louis.  This is being done so as to overcome the problem of treatment of muddy water after heavy rainfalls.  A new system will be put in place whilst keeping in place the existing ones.  It is expected to be operational by mid 2015.
