GIS - 05 December, 2017: The Data Protection Bill will be introduced into the National Assembly. The object of the Bill is to repeal and replace the Data Protection Act with a view to strengthening control and personal autonomy of data subjects over their personal data, thereby contributing to respect for their human rights, fundamental freedoms, and their right to privacy.
The Bill is in line with current relevant international standards, in particular, the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 of the European Union. It aims at simplifying the regulatory environment for business in the digital economy and promoting the safe transfer of personal data to and from foreign jurisdictions, given the diversification, intensification and globalisation of data processing and personal data flows.
