GIS - 12 December 2014: The Decentralised Cooperation Programme (DCP) which operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development awarded grants to fourteen Non State Actors (NSAs) last week in Port Louis, following approval of the 3rd Call for Proposals by the European Union (EU) delegation, for a total amount of around Rs 12.7 million.
Among the beneficiaries three are from Rodrigues and the projects to be implemented will focus on poverty alleviation, good governance, improved business services for small businesses and natural resource management in Rodrigues.
The grant which will be disbursed under the DCP phase II, will hence help to strengthen the capacity of Non State Actors to design, implement, manage and monitor community-based projects that call for high standards.
DCP is an EU instrument assisting NGOs engaged in activities to fight against poverty at community level helping the needy segments of the population. DCP awards grants through a call for proposals scheme and is in line with the commitment of the EU to combat poverty and exclusion.
At the award of contract ceremony to the beneficiaries, the Programme Coordinator & Imprest Administrator of the DCP, Mr K.Valaydon, announced that the EU will soon allocate funds for the implementation of the third phase of the DCP with effect as from mid 2015 which will focus on eradicating extreme poverty, maternal health and improving the environment and sanitation.
The Decentralised Cooperation Programme Phase II under the 10th European Development Fund is a continuation of the DCP phase I undertaken between September 2005 and March 2010 under the 9th EDF. DCP I injected Rs 480 million for the training of NGOs working for the relief of poverty and DCP II, with a budget of around Rs 230 million targeting the reduction of poverty activities will run until the end of November 2016.
