Deputy Speaker receives delegation from Japan

GIS – 24 August, 2018: – 24 August, 2018: A delegation from Japan, led by the Member of the House of Representatives of Japan and President of the Japan-AU Parliamentary Friendship Association, Mr Ichiro Aisawa, paid a courtesy call this morning on the Deputy Speaker of the Mauritius National Assembly, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, at the National Assembly in Port Louis.
Discussions focused on the different means to further promote bilateral relations between Mauritius and Japan as well as to identify new areas of cooperation.
Other issues evoked pertained to: collaboration between the two countries in Expo 2020 Dubai; Mauritius’ role in the regional economic integration process of the Africa Strategy; the African Business Education Initiative; and the health sector.
About Mr Ichiro Aisawa
Mr Ichiro Aisawa, a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party, is a native of Mitsu District, Okayama, and a graduate of Keio University. He was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time in 1986. In 2003, he was appointed as Senior Vice-Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He was also appointed as Chairmen of several Standing Committees of the House of Representatives, namely: Committee on Foreign Affairs in 1997; Committee on Rules and Administration in 2006; Committee on Budget in 2007; and, Committee on Fundamental National Policies in 2014.
