GIS - 23 November, 2016: The Ministerial Committee on Electoral Reforms, set up by the Government has already submitted its recommendations on the financing of political parties and these recommendations are being examined, replied the Prime Minister, Sir Anerood Jugnauth on 22 November 2016 in the National Assembly to a Parliamentary Question relating to the financing of political parties.
The Attorney-General’s Office has already been requested to prepare a draft Bill on the funding of political parties, based broadly on the recommendations of the Ministerial Committee, he added.

He pointed out that at the drafting stage, some issues have cropped up which will be thrashed out after consultations with the Electoral Supervisory Commission, the Office of the Electoral Commissioner and other stakeholders. The Bill will be finalised once these issues have been cleared, he said.

Sir Anerood reassured the House that Government will stand by its commitment and introduce the Bill into the National Assembly as soon as it is ready, after appropriate consultations.
