GIS – October 10, 2014: The international final of Web Cup 2014, a 24-hour website creation challenge, will be held on 11 and 12 October at Ebène Accelerator in Ebène Cyber-city. Web Cup aims at rewarding talent in the ICT field particularly as regards the design and production of websites.
In line with regional cooperation in the ICT sector, the event was held on 7 and 8 June 2014 simultaneously in Mauritius, Réunion Island, Madagascar, Comoros, Seychelles and Mayotte as part of selection phases.
One hundred and eighty-three participants (companies, students, professionals, amateurs) competed during the selections whereby six best teams from the six countries have been designated. On 11 October 2014, the six teams will be assigned a topic with the challenge of staying awake during 24 hours to create a website. Originality, creativity, design, content and technology are amongst the criterion taken in consideration to distinguish the winners. The winning team will be awarded a prize in relation to new technologies.
The organisers of the international final of Web Cup 2014 are Outsourcing and Telecommunications Associations of Mauritius (OTAM), Mauritius IT Industry Association (MITIA) and Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie France Maurice (CCIFM), and the Web Cup association of Réunion Island. This international event is partnered by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology in collaboration with sponsors specialised in the ICT sector.
