Infotech 2015: Creating awareness on emerging technologies

GIS - October 1st, 2015: Infotech 2015, aiming at creating awareness on emerging technologies, bridging the digital divide and providing a platform for local ICT operators to develop business opportunities with potential technology partners and customers, was officially inaugurated last night at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre, in Pailles.
The event was held in the presence of the acting Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Marie Joseph Noël Etienne Ghislain Sinatambou.  The Minister, in his address, reiterated Mauritius’ e-governance initiatives which include the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding in that field so as to strengthen cybersecurity.
Some 600 invitees including Government officials, CEOs of public and private bodies, exhibitors and sponsors of Infotech 2015 were present at the inauguration ceremony which was followed by a visit of Infotech’s Innovation Space and Exhibition, and a networking cocktail.
Infotech 2015
Infotech, organised by the National Computer Board, is a major annual event on the ICT calendar.
The four-day event, which is in its 22nd edition, has as objectives to provide information on developments and achievements in the ICT sector; promote local talents, expertise, know-how and export potential; and sensitise on the potential applications of ICT and choice of technology for effective business and individual solutions.
40 exhibitors are showcasing their technology and ICT products and services from 1st to 4 October 2015.  The 60 stands booked are expected to attract over 100,000 visitors.  Entrance is free of charge.
Infotech 2015 includes the following components:
  • ICT Exhibition
  • Innovation Space to highlight innovative projects of the industry as well as institutions and academia
  • ICT Career Guidance/Job Fair to sensitise young people, parents and the public in general on career opportunities and prospects in the ICT-BPO sector.  Six companies will be present to support the recruitment process in the sector and three training institutions  will be present to enrol students for studies
  • Gaming Zone - a modern technology-driven entertainment platform for young people as well as adults.
