GIS - 24 July, 2018: An agreement was signed on 20 July 2018 at Beau Bassin Prison for the commissioning of 190 surveillance cameras at the Central Prison and New Wing prisons. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of the Commissioner of Prisons, Mr Premananda Appadoo, and the Chief Executive Officer of Brinks Ocean Indien, Mr Eric Rey.
The Prisons Commissioner pointed out that these new equipment will further strengthen the surveillance system permanently (24 hrs / 24 hrs) by helping officers to identify, as well as to elucidate several types of incidents, and to maintain order and discipline in a more efficient way. They will also be used to monitor the movements and behaviours of inmates and staff.
Mr Eric Rey hailed the partnership between Brinks Mauritius Ltd staff and the prison staff in order to bring this project to a successful conclusion. A common working atmosphere will continue to prevail in staff training, he underlined.
The prison department is the first public institution to engage in the rental of surveillance cameras, which is more advantageous for the client.
