Local Government Minister reviews 2015 achievements

GIS - 29 December, 2015: The Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service and the situation of hawkers in Port Louis was at the centre of the review of achievements of the Ministry of Local Government for the year 2015 during a press conference held this morning in Port Louis by the Minister of Local Government, Dr Anwar Husnoo.

Minister Husnoo underlined that the situation of hawkers in Port Louis is much better than last year and that there is still room for improvement and that as from the beginning of next year things will change in a positive way.

He lauded the various tasks accomplished by the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service and conceded that the fire station of Port Louis needs to be relocated and that the project is already in the pipeline. He added that a proper location will soon be identified.
The Local Government Minister made an appeal for the use of online services provided by his ministry and gave an insight of future projects of his ministry such as its involvement in the setting up of smart cities, relocation of hawkers, led lighting, construction of new district council headquarters and village halls, amongst others.
He announced that as from next year his ministry will work closely with the National Development Unit to facilitate the implementation of various projects and their coordination.
