GIS - July 02, 2012: The prize giving ceremony for the Mauritius Business Excellence Award (MBEA) 2011 was held on Friday 29 June 2012 at the Meridien Hotel, Pointe aux Piments. The winners are: Lavan Furniture in the Small Enterprise category; Prodesign Ltd and Ustad Furniture in the Medium Enterprise category. In the Large Enterprise category, Omnicane Ltd and La Marina are the winners.
A total of 167 local companies from various sectors ranging from textile industry, furniture-making, insurances, tourism, construction, to agro industry, ICT and the medical sector participated in the 2011 edition of MBEA. The 5th edition of the competition, the MBEA 2012, has now been officially launched.
The Minister of Business, Enterprise, and Cooperatives, Mr. J.I.M. Seetaram, addressed the assistance and highlighted the key role and contribution of the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the economy of Mauritius. For his part the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection, Mr. C. Sayed-Hossen, underscored the concept of quality and the search for excellence in business strategies, and outlined the need to foster product and market diversification in order to enhance market access through internationally recognised standards.
The objectives of the MBEA are to encourage and stimulate best business practices for the achievement of higher productivity and competitiveness; to promote the use of economic and productivity assessment tools among participants for improvement in management and operational practices; to identify role models adopting world class practices for others to emulate; and to provide recognition to businesses that are making continuous efforts to improve management and operational practices.
The evaluation criteria for the Award are based on key business areas such as financial management, leadership, social responsibility, strategic planning, human resource management, and sales and marketing, amongst others.
