GIS – 27 November 2018: The World Artificial Intelligence (AI) Show, a thought-leadership driven and business-focused event, and the World Blockchain Summit which is set to connect global blockchain experts and technology players in this space, will be hosted from 28 to 30 November 2018 at InterContinental Resort Mauritius. The Humanoid robot, Sophia, named the United Nations Development Programme's first ever non-human Innovation Champion, will also be present.
The Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Yogida Sawmynaden, during a press conference yesterday at SICOM Tower, in Ebène, gave an overview of the World AI Show and World Blockchain Summit. These events, he stated, will be a platform to impart knowledge about AI and Blockchain with the presence of key expert speakers who will give their insights on these topics and will enable Mauritian partners to progress in these domains in the future.
The Minister indicated that the events will be a rendezvous for all technopreneurs and captains of the industry, ICT professionals as well as professionals from different sectors such as finance, health, agriculture, transport, education and tourism. More than 430 participants have already registered over and above other stakeholders who would be present.
In addition, Mr Sawmynaden highlighted the intent of Mauritius to set up an Artificial Intelligence Council which is a 2018-2019 Budgetary measure announced by the Prime Minister. It is expected that following the World AI show and World Blockchain Summit, Mauritius would be in a better position to chart out the way towards successfully implementing this measure and accordingly elaborate legal frameworks to set up the Artificial Intelligence Council, he added.
The three-day event is being organised by the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation, in collaboration with the EDB and Trescon Global. The World AI Show will have among the confirmed speakers, the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.
The Mauritius AI Show is part of a global series after Amsterdam, Mumbai, Nairobi, Dubai and Singapore. It aims at connecting top AI experts, enterprises, government representatives, data scientists, technology leaders, startups, investors, researchers, academicians and global AI innovators, all under one roof.
The show and the Summit have as objectives to: transform the country into an attractive destination for key players in AI and Blockchain; and, assist Government on mapping the economic impacts of AI technologies and to attract investors in the field of AI and Blockchain.
This initiative will also support Mauritius’ vision to enable government, enterprises and industries to implement the latest innovations that shape the AI and Blockchain roadmap in the following sectors: Digital Public Services, Transportation, Supply Chain, Emergency Management, Healthcare, FinTech Services, Smart Cities, Smart Education, and Industrial IoT and Manufacturing.
