GIS - July 13, 2012: The Minister of Agro Industry and Food Security, Mr S. Faugoo, accompanied by a team of officials from his Ministry effected a site visit at Belle Vue Experiment Station, Albion yesterday to take stock of the research work undertaken by the Chinese Agricultural Technical Team (CATT).
Several projects and activities such as production of ducklings for sale to breeders, research and training on artificial insemination of pig, hydroponics of vegetables and production of vegetable seeds, are currently being undertaken at the station.
The production of ducklings and ducks have increased from 3 000 to 25 000 over the last ten years. Currently some 500 ducklings are being produced per week.
The CATT is here in Mauritius for more than four decades and this has been possible due to the China and Mauritius co-operation programme. The past projects included rice production, mushroom production, fruits and vegetables research and training.They have also collaborated in agro processing and composting technology.
The CATT collaborates with technicians and scientists of the Ministry on the on-going projects.
