GIS - 20 August, 2014: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre (NDRRMC) Day organised a half day workshop yesterday at Line Barracks, Port-Louis in the context of the World Humanitarian. Participants from different ministries, the police force and ONGs attended the workshop where the resource persons were Mrs V. Bellers from the NDRRMC and Mr S. Springett from the UNDP.
The aim of the workshop was to bring together local key actors in humanitarian delivery to review how the international humanitarian community can better support the country in preparing for and responding to disasters.
The workshop, co-facilitated by the NDRRMC and the United Nations Office in Mauritius, is part of the consultations currently taking place ahead of the World Humanitarian Summit to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, in May 2016. During the Summit the following themes will be addressed: Human effectiveness; Reducing vulnerability and managing risk; transformation through innovation; and Serving the needs of people in conflict.
