GIS - 28 August, 2015: The Minister of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare, Mrs Marie-Aurore Perraud, appealed to Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in Rodrigues to seize the opportunities for project funding under the Special Collaborative Programme for Support to Women and Children in Distress and to submit good project proposals accordingly.
The appeal was made by the Minister during her recent mission in Rodrigues from 19 to 21 August 2015 where she participated in various workshops and capacity building programmes with several NGOs and women associations.
The objectives of the visit were to take stock of the numerous projects implemented for the welfare of women, children and families, the problems encountered and the way forward.The objective of the Special Collaborative Programme is to support women and children in distress with a view to enhancing their livelihoods and integrating them in the mainstreaming of development. Since the inception of the programme in 2009 and up to 2013, 19 projects from Rodrigues have benefitted to the tune of Rs 15 million.
During her visit, the Minister also met the Chief Commissioner of Rodrigues, Mr Serge Clair, with whom she discussed the strengthening of partnership between Mauritius and Rodrigues to advance human rights for women and children and for the betterment of families while taking into account local cultural specificities. Mrs Perraud also paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Chief Commissioner and Commissioner for Child Development, Family Welfare, Women’s Affairs, Handicraft, Vocational Training, IT and Telecommunications, Industrial Development and Cooperatives, Mrs Franchette Gaspard-Pierre Louis.
