National Cleaning Campaign Launched in Grand Baie

GIS - Mar 06, 2012: The National Campaign ‘To zete to tasse’ was launched on 3 March by the Minister of Tourism and Leisure, Mr M. Sik Yuen in Grand Baie.  The objective of the campaign is, to sensitise the whole population on the importance of keeping Mauritius clean and dissuade people from littering public places.

This campaign which is undertaken by the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure includes the cleaning of beaches and the embellishment of the regions as well as planting of trees.  This will afterwards be followed by a distribution of bins and decorative trees.

Other campaigns will be undertaken throughout the year in regions such as Flic en Flac, Belle Mare, Blue Bay, Souillac and Port Louis which attract a large number of tourists.

The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Mr D. Virahsawmy and the Minister of Local Government and Outer Islands, Mr H. Aimée, members of the local community, NGOs and officials of other ministries were also present at the launching ceremony.
