GIS – 08 March 2018: The People’s Republic of China has donated 100 000 national flags, 150 000 pins and 10 000 mugs to the Government of Mauritius in the context of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the Independence Day of Mauritius.
The Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, made this announcement yesterday at a press conference in Port Louis in the presence of the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Mauritius, Mr Sun Gongyi and other personalities. The signature of certificate for the donation of national flags, pins and mugs was signed by the Minister Roopun and Ambassador Gongyi.
Minister Roopun highlighted that diplomatic relations between Mauritius and China were established in 1972 and stressed on further strengthening the cultural and economic ties between the two countries. He expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for their contribution in providing national flags, pins and mugs which will be distributed among the population for the celebrations of Independence Day.
For his part, Mr Gongyi spoke of the friendly and longstanding relationship between China and Mauritius which he said should be further nurtured by collaborating in new areas of cooperation. The existing 45 years of cultural bond between the two countries can serve as an example to the world, he added.
