GIS - July 19, 2012: The website of the National Youth Council (NYC), aiming to provide a platform where young people can share their views and help establish a national youth agenda for Mauritius, was launched yesterday at Le Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel, in Port Louis.

The website which can be accessed on the following link www.nycmauritius.com, offers general information on the NYC and its calendar of activities, as well as on projects of Regional Youth Councils and Youth Clubs.  The goal is to create knowledge connectivity among young people.

In his opening address, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Satyaprakash Ritoo, stated that the website is an additional tool for young people to stay connected and be informed about youth services and activities. It is in line with the vision of the NYC which is to create a responsible youth citizenship imbued with multidisciplinary skills that would contribute efficiently and effectively in all spheres of the development of Mauritius, he observed.

For his part, the Chairman of the NYC, Mr. Krishna Athal said that the Council is currently designing innovative strategies to provide an unparalleled opportunity to address leadership challenges, and to take the field of youth leadership to a new level.  He expressed his belief that social transformation can only be achieved through value-based leadership, adding that when individuals undergo a process of inner change they then collectively begin to chart their destiny as a people.

The National Youth Council (NYC) is a body corporate under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.  It has been established under the NYC Act 1998 to serve as a bridge between the government and the youth.  It grants affiliation to National Youth Organisations and also functions as an advisory board to the Minister on the development and implementation of programmes to integrate youth in all sectors of national development.
