GIS– 26 September, 2017: A nomination ceremony will be held in Paris tonight during which Jane Constance will be named as UNESCO Artist for Peace.
The ceremony, to be held at the Headquarters of UNESCO in Paris, will be attended by the Director-General of UNESCO, Mrs Irina Bokova, the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, the Mauritian Ambassador to France, Mr Vijayen Valaydon, Jane Constance’s parents and friends, and previous Artists for Peace, among others.
The nomination of Jane Constance is in recognition of her commitment to promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, as well as her work for their empowerment and inclusion and for her dedication to the ideals of UNESCO. As a UNESCO Artist for Peace, she will give her support to the Organisation’s work in favour of the inclusion of persons with disabilities.
It is to be recalled that Jane Constance, blind at birth, took up singing at the age of five and started learning to play piano at seven. She pursued further studies in piano and singing at the Royal School of Music in London. In 2015, she won the French television competition The Voice Kids 2 and released her first album, A travers tes yeux, the following year.
UNESCO Artists for Peace are internationally renowned personalities who use their influence, charisma and prestige to help promote UNESCO’s message and programmes. UNESCO works with these distinguished personalities to heighten public awareness of key development issues and of the Organisation's action in these fields.
