The NIT, launched retroactively as from 01 July 2017, is a financial support from Government to employees whose basic salary is less than or equal to Rs 9 900 monthly and is payable on a quarterly basis.
Letters of remittance were handed over symbolically to some beneficiaries by the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, on 24 November 2017 during an official ceremony at the MRA Headquarters. On that day, 12 100 accounts were credited and at 30 November 2017, the number increased by 6 227.
Moreover, to facilitate registration of potential employees eligible for the NIT, the MRA also dispatched dedicated teams to the premises of enterprises, namely CMT, Princes Tuna, Shifa Clinic, Palmar Ltd, Outremer Telecom and Esquel Ltd. Similar exercises are being carried out in other enterprises.
The MRA has also made an appeal to eligible employees, who have not yet registered to either call at the MRA Head Office or to register for the NIT electronically through MRA’s website:
