GIS - 01 August, 2018: The Ministry of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping will promulgate three Regulations under the Merchant Shipping Act.
Firstly, the Merchant Shipping (Maritime Training Provider) Regulations will provide a legal framework for maritime training institutions to operate and deliver courses in line with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping 1978.
The Merchant Shipping (Weight Verification of Containers) Regulations will enforce the implementation of amendments to Regulation 2 of Chapter VI of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).
As for the Merchant Shipping (Port State Control) Regulations, they will provide a legal framework for the conduct of Port State Control inspections of foreign ships in our ports to ensure compliance with various International Conventions, with a view to eliminating substandard ships in our waters.
