Report of the Truth and Justice Commission: Several recommendations currently being implemented

GIS - 11 July, 2016: The Ministerial Committee, set up under the chair of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism and External Communications to reconsider the recommendations contained in the Report of the Truth and Justice Commission, has made several recommendations which are currently being implemented. 
 
The recommendations include the setting up of an Inter-continental Museum of Slavery in Port Louis and the acquisition of exhibits by the Ministry of Arts and Culture that would be displayed in the Museum.
They also include the setting up of a Land Research and Mediation Unit and a study on “The Impact of Slaves and their Descendants on the Economic Development of Mauritius” by Mr Benjamin Mootoo and the Ministry of Arts and Culture laying more emphasis on the promotion of culture by reengineering Museums and heritage sites.
A number of recommendations of the Commission have been incorporated within the programme of work of Ministries for implementation at their end.
