GIS19 September, 2016: The grand winner of the Public Service Excellence Award 2015 is Sir Abdool Razack Mohamed SSS. The award ceremony was held on 16 September 2016 at The Ravenala Attitude Hotel, Balaclava in the presence of the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Minister of Tourism and External Communications, Mr Xavier Luc Duval, and the Minister of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms, and Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, and Disaster and Beach Management, Mr Alain Wong.
In his address, the Acting Prime Minister thanked civil servants for all that has been done to date and requested them to redouble their efforts as together we can create a better Mauritius. He recalled that civil servants intervene in all facets of life in our society and the Ministry of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms has an important role to play in achieving the second economic miracle the country is aiming for.

According to Mr Duval, the civil service has to become a centre of excellence before our country can aspire to join the select group of first world countries, for a first world country is supported by first world institutions. Our institutions, be it the judiciary, the police or the education system, have served us extremely well to get where we are today, he said, adding that but to get where we want to be, where we deserve to be, we have no option but to upgrade.

For his part, Minister Wong underlined that Governments are here to define policies but civil servants are those who help in translating these policies and visions into tangible actions and results. He expressed conviction that the involvement of civil servants will allow this Government to materialise its vision for a Second Economic Miracle and propel the country to a higher level of development and prosperity.

Public governance, the Minister stressed, must become more responsive and accountable, moving from reform to transformation, in order to lead the implementation of sustainable development. “It must be innovative, proactive and inclusive to be both an enabler and an outcome of sustainability”, he said.
