Works of local and international artists to be showcased in collective exhibition in Mauritius

GIS - 12 September, 2019: An exhibition entitled ‘Conversations - Du surréalisme à la création contemporaine’, bringing together works of famous artists of the 20th century art as well as of contemporary artists of the Indian Ocean, namely Antoni Tàpies, Jean-René Bazaine, Alexander Calder, Edouardo Chillida, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Malcolm de Chazal, Wifredo Lam, Joan Miró, Cristof Dènmont, Clotilde Provansal, Abel Techer, Salim Currimjee, Simon Back, Oliver Maingard, will be held from 28 September to 30 November 2019 at the Natural History Museum in Port Louis. The event is an initiative of l’Institut Français de Maurice, in collaboration with Le Fonds Regional d’Art Contemporain de La Réunion and the Ministry of Arts and Culture.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Arts and Culture, Mrs R. Ramrukheea, made this announcement, yesterday, during a press conference at the Natural History Museum in Port Louis in presence of the Ambassador of France to Mauritius, Mr Emmanuel Cohet.
The objective of the exhibition, she said, is to promote artistic creations in all its forms. She reiterated the willingness of the Ministry to provide its support to artists as well as to cater for their emancipation. Such expositions, she added, will develop synergies among countries in the region and also provide opportunities for cultural exchanges.
Ambassador Cohet indicated that the exhibition was presented in 2018 in Reunion Island, and is being replicated this year in Mauritius to reinforce cultural ties among the countries of the Indian Ocean. The exhibition, he said, will contribute to the remarkable creative diversity of artists and also shed light on the works of contemporary artists of the region.
The exhibition consists: guided tours, meetings with artists, visits by art students, film screening, and workshops and will be open to the public. The calendar of activities is as follows:
28 September – 30 November 2019: Open on Tuesday to Saturday from 9.00hrs to 17 30hrs, one hour guided visits on Saturday as from 11 00hrs.
Saturday 28 September: Meeting with artists from 19 00hrs to 20 00hrs
Thursday 10 October: Guided visits by arts students from 18 00hrs to 19 00hrs
Thursday 24 October: Open air Cinema from 19 00hrs to 20 30hrs
