Youth Excellence Award – Investing in youth priority for Government, says Minister Ritoo

GIS – July 12, 2013:    Investing in youth is a priority of Government with the policy geared towards ensuring the development and growth of young Mauritians, stated the Minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Satyaprakash Ritoo on July 10.
 
The Minister was speaking at the launching of the 6th Edition of the Youth Excellence Award at the seat of his Ministry in Port Louis.
 
On the Award, the Minister said that it represents a platform to enable young people demonstrate their know-how through a project on themes of high importance to the growth of young people.  Mr Ritoo also encouraged the youth population of Mauritius to participate in great number in this year’s edition so as to show their capability in promoting the welfare of society.
 
The Award
 
The aim of the Youth Excellence Award is to give young people the opportunity to highlight their involvement in the social, economic, cultural, artistic and other youth-related fields through a project; promote high youth achievers as role models to inspire other youth; reward outstanding projects; and showcase original and innovative projects which demonstrate a sense of initiative and a search for excellence by young people.  Projects should also address a community need as well as be sustainable, and have scope/potential for development.
 
The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 45,000 and a Souvenir Trophy.  Second and third runner up will receive a cash prize of Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively and a Souvenir Trophy.  The ten nominees will each be awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and all participants will be awarded a certificate of participation.
 
The Youth Excellence Award is open to young people aged between 17 and 29 years.  Individuals as well as teams (not exceeding ten persons) may submit entries for the Award.
 
Date of submission of participation forms is 20 August 2013 while submission date for a complete project description is 20 September 2013.
