Youth Excellence Award – Self-confidence lies in the search for excellence, says Minister Ritoo

GIS – May 8, 2014:   Approaching the future with a vision as well as with a search for excellence equates to becoming more self-confident.  However, getting involved in viable projects for the welfare of the community is the best way to develop one’s potential, stated the Minister of Youth and Sports Mr Satyaprakash Ritoo this morning at the launching of the 7th Edition of the Youth Excellence Award in Port Louis.
 
The Award is at the peak of this Ministry’s youth policy which is geared towards enabling young people to become autonomous.  Its objective is to promote high youth achievers as role models to inspire other youth, the Minister said.
 
Open to young people aged between 14 and 29 years, this year’s edition is being organised jointly with SICOM.  Participation will be on an individual basis.
 
Participants are called upon to submit a project in any one of the following areas of interest: Literary Promotion; Artistic Pursuit; Technology/Innovation; Art and Design; and Leadership in the field of Socioeconomic Development.
 
The Award
 
The broader aim of the Youth Excellence Award is to give young people the opportunity to highlight their involvement in the social, economic, cultural, artistic and other youth-related fields through a project; promote high youth achievers as role models to inspire other youth; reward outstanding projects; and showcase original and innovative projects which demonstrate a sense of initiative and a search for excellence by young people.  Projects should also address a community need as well as be sustainable, and have scope/potential for development.
 
Three prizes will be awarded for each category. Winners will be rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a Trophy. The first runner up will get a cash prize of Rs10,000 and the second will get a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and a Shield.
 
Date of submission of participation forms is 6 June 2014 while submission date for a complete project description is 11 July 2014.
