Youth Excellence Award – Winners of the 5th Edition Announced

GIS - October 2, 2012: The names of the winners of the 5th edition of the Youth Excellence Award (YEA) were announced on 29 September 2012 at the award ceremony held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute Auditorium in Moka.
The winners are as follows: Ebène State Secondary School in the area of interest Agriculture, Youth Employment and Enterprise Initiatives; Art Invasion Club in the Arts and Crafts Promotion category; Mahatma Gandhi SSS Nouvelle France in the category Family Life and Human Values; Newton College in Preservation/Protection of the Environment; and, Black Rangers Volleyball Club in Youth Leadership and Community Work.  A Special Jury’s Award was presented for this year’s edition to Ms Marie Chandrine Perrine of Rodrigues in the category Family Life and Human Values for her project entitled ‘Judo as a medium to reinforce family values’.
In his address on that occasion the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Satyaprakash Ritoo, recalled that today’s youth are the leaders of tomorrow.  He expressed his firm belief in the potential and capacities of the youth to offer a better future to Mauritius by contributing to the country’s socio-economic development. The Minister greeted the participants for their efforts and congratulated the winners adding that nothing is difficult for our youth.
The winner in each area of interest received a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and a souvenir trophy.  Two other nominees for each area of interest received a cash prize of Rs 5,000.  A certificate of Participation was presented to every participant.
The Award
The aim of the YEA is to give young people the opportunity to highlight their involvement in the social, economic, cultural, artistic and other youth-related fields through a project.  The Award promotes high youth achievers as role models to inspire other youth; rewards outstanding projects; and showcases projects which demonstrate a sense of initiative and a search for excellence by young people.
The Youth Excellence Award is open to young people aged between 16 and 29 years.  Entries for the Award can be submitted either as individuals or team.
