GIS – August 12, 2013: Mauritius hosted on 9 and 10 August the 28th Ministerial Meeting of the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) which was held at the Intercontinental Resort, Balaclava. The Ministerial Meeting, chaired by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Satyaprakash Ritoo, was preceded by meetings at experts’ level on 7 and 8 August 2013.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on 9 August, Minister Ritoo said that Mauritius can be proud for the role which the country has played and continues to play in promoting regional cohesion through youth and sports related activities.
Complementary to our actions, said the Minister, these meetings should represent true opportunities for us to reaffirm our cooperation and friendship ties as it is only together that we will move forward and overcome obstacles. It is also this way that we will be able to contribute positively to the socio-economic development of our respective countries and our region, he added.
Discussions at the meetings focused on the outcome of the activities organised by the CJSOI during the period January to July 2013 as well as on the 10th Edition of the CJSOI Games to be hosted by Mayotte. The programme of activities for the year 2014 was also examined.
Set up in 1988, the CJSOI groups seven countries of the region, namely: Comoros, Djibouti, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte, Reunion and the Seychelles. The 9th Edition of the Games is to be held in Djibouti in January 2014.
